Totally agree Dale... there was something special about just hanging outside doing everything and nothing... and just seeing where the day takes ya. All the adventures and misadventures... there was a pure innocence to it all that kids born roughly around mid '90s on cannot relate to. I feel very fortunate to have been born when I was.

I'm glad The Friends is a book that sounds up your alley. If you ever read it, post back here one day and share your thoughts! The book is a bit slow paced though, and there isn't much "action" but it has a ton of heart and has a good message or two.

Thanks for sharing the link -- I have never heard of Slacker but from the pictures you posted it totally has that early '90s vibe going for it. I agree that the advent of the internet and other things such as social media is a win for the most part (I would much rather have these things than not) but yeah, it would be cool to go back 30 years sometimes and remember what those carefree days were like. Alas, we can't physically, but we have things such as music, video games, movies and books to transport us back to a certain time period... these things are the closest things to a time machine as we'll ever get! I suppose for me at least, that's damn good enough.

I can relate to so much you said on this writeup. As a fellow mid30s person, I can relate to what you said about being among the last gen to have pre-Internet childhood. I played a ton of videogames as a kid, but also had lots of neighborhood kids to play baseball, bike, tag and hoops with. Always loved that sense of 'exploring' and seeing where the day took us.

The way you described this book brought back those twee memories. Loved Tuesday With Morries also. This book sounds right up my alley. Thank you for bringing it to my attention!

One last thing, as much I take in the advantages of Internet age like social media, online news and emails a big part of me wishes to be this age now in the early 90s so I could gain an hour or two a day in the pre-online/cell phone world and be more engaging with people. Ever see the movie Slacker? Kind of like that where it catches a couple dozen five minute snapshots of lives of random people. I did a write up of it on my blog if you want to know more - http://daleisgreat.blogspot.com/2019/11/slacker.html
