Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. The reason Contra III didn’t make this particular list is because I specifically stated that this list would be for 4 player games only (4 players or more). Perhaps one day I’ll do a “Best of 2 player SNES games” article but yeah, this one only references SNES games that have 4+ player capability. But yes, Contra III is an instant win in any context

Ah, man, this is so cool. All the memories and stuff. That’s a very cool selection, I played nearly all of them. However, I can’t believe you don’t have Contra III here (also known as Super Probotector: Alien Rebels). I remember this gem and how our fingers hurt after playing it, I bet those considering themselves masters of hard games today after beating Dark Souls would be screaming in anger. It’s also on SNES Classic (the mini console) as far as I know.

Thanks for the response, that is awesome to bump into Xavier like that, I never met a wrestler ‘in the wild’ yet, I did see several walking the streets of Miami when I was there for WM28 but that is as close as it will probably get.

I met Xavier Woods at a Ramen house. Apparently, he’s a huge fan of Asian cuisine. I met up with my girlfriend and her friends one night, and we sat around a wall. On our way out, we passed the wall and there I saw him sitting with two friends (not Kofi and Big E, although I might have TRULY lost it if that were the case). It was my first time ever seeing a pro wrestler “out in the wild.” I did this big dramatic mark out… my hands dropped to the floor and I started walking toward him like Bigfoot. My mouth agape, my eyes wide, I blurted out pretty much on sight “XAVIER WOODS!” His profile was facing me so poor guy didn’t really see me coming and he was shocked. Anyway, he was really nice even though looking back in hindsight I was kind of bad for interrupting his meal. But I honestly couldn’t help it — I totally marked out in the moment. My girlfriend had a good laugh after we walked out of the restaurant. She was all, “Baby I can’t believe how excited you got back there! Someone’s a SLIGHT fan…”

I just reread this after seeing it on your latest anniversary article and I must have missed it the first time but saw how you met Xavier Woods! That’s awesome, how did that came to be? I occasionally check out Up Up Down Down and will devour some of his vids like Edge and Christian NHL 94 faceoff and the New Day/Elite Street Fighter V challenge.

I’ve wanted to write more SNES articles like this (best/worst box art, hidden gems, etc.) for the past 10+ years. I’m going to try and write more articles like this for 2019. Very nice list! Thank you for the thorough breakdown! I had no idea of a lot of these imports and Bomberman puzzle spinoffs. So many to add to my must try list.

Our family had a multitap and we it got a ton of use. Most of it was got sports games like Madden, NBA Hangtime and WWF RAW. I always wanted to try it out with secret of mana but never got around to it. This brought back a lot of good memories, thanks again for this article!
