Super late reply but well said my friend. Equinox is terrific and truly one of the underrated gems of the SNES library. It's really got an atmosphere like none other, and makes me wish we got more isometric titles on the SNES. Alas, it wasn't meant to be. Still, games like Equinox and Shadowrun are always a treat to revisit once in a blue moon. These games are simply fun, gripping and soaked with tension and atmosphere up the proverbial wazoo.

Ah, Equinox, my all-time favorite Software Creations game by John and Ste Pickford as well as my all-time favorite isometric action-adventure game (okay, maybe I haven't played many of those but out of the ones I did play--among them Landstalker, which I kind of I wish I hadn't--it's the most polished and solidly controlled for me)! =) It's a game that for roughly the past seven years since I got it I enjoy coming back to once a year on account of how much great fun it is.

I love the inventive puzzle-solving in each dungeon and their incredibly detailed look about them (Atlena, Quagmire, and Afralona especially), I love the soundtrack and ambient sound effects as you're exploring these forbidden labyrinthine areas which create a huge sense of atmosphere that totally MAKES this game's world breathe to the point where at times it can be very ominous-sounding (Afralona's ambience, chills), I love the design layouts (including the secret rooms), I love the sense of challenge (yeah, the lack of shadows contribute to this, but the play control is so great that I forgive it), and some boss fights are intense (the ones with Pincha and Sonia, especially) on account that it's one hit and you die.

It's too bad that the Solstice series ended here (on a sequel bait-like note to the unfortunately cancelled sequel The Spyral Saga, last I looked up) as I would've liked to have played a proper follow-up (even though I didn't play the predecessor), but while it lasts Equinox is a ton of immersive and atmospheric fun. One of my personal favorites, I love it! =D
